Healthcare Major

Medical and health service management ensures that the health resources are utilized efficiently. Therefore, as a health administrator, it is essential to conduct analysis and establish plans that would ensure health services, finance, policies, human resources and marketing are managed adequately. While having visits to the hospital, I realize that various challenges were encountered such as addressing mental disorders among both inpatients and outpatients. Patients often complain of long term medication, visits to medical specialist and financial challenges in accessing quality healthcare. The situation proves an urgent need of mental fitness to positively take treatment and recover.

Events

My interest in caring for people in different occasions has prompted me to view healthcare management as one of the most exciting fields of my career. It is through active involvement in community services that has prompted my concern on health management. I realized that addressing different issues faced by patients and other healthcare stakeholders would play a vital role in ensuring that management systems are efficient.

Mental health plays a critical role in any environment. However, most of the people neglect any health issues that arise as a result of frustration and stress (Deacon, p. 850). The conditions have created a perception of the insignificance of accessing medical care during the process of exposure to stressful events.

I realized that the number of mental cases has continued to rise across most of the streets. Some are neglected by their families and left to stay in streets. At one event I came across an incidence with one of the most distressed women proved that most of the mental distress cases could be avoided when an individual, seeks medical assistance in addressing stressful conditions. For instance, she describes different series of events that she was exposed to through an accident she survived. The way she described the conditions of the accidents and exposure of mutilated bodies and how the event occurred was threatening, and one could not get over it without an assistance of a medical counselor. In analyzing the number of people affected I realized that there are more male with the condition compared to the women. Moreover, The rising number of patients with mental disorder have been contribute by the increasing life demands that an individual is required to meet to make a living.

Different people perceive stress and frustration differently. The minority would view it positively while a majority are unable to deal with the condition. Unattended mental pressure leads to different negative impacts that affect communities and various activities in the line of their duties (Deacon, p. 856). Furthermore, most of the people affected by the mental disorder consider it normal hence they are bound to endure it without treatment. In addressing the issue, I thought of conducting awareness among different groups of people ranging from those who visit the clinics to those at work stations.

The reported cases of drug abuse have been profoundly contributed by mental distress that fails to be addressed. Alcohol is an example of a drug that people believe that it reliefs one's mental pressures. The process leads to alcohol abuse which creates complicated health issues through addiction (Deacon, p. 850).

Dealing with mental distressed in patients would include contacting the families of the affected individuals and involving counselors, psychotherapist and clinicians. The process of treatment would analyze different aspects surrounding the patient's life. It would also find different remedies that changes the patient's views on difficult circumstances.

Workplace pressure has also contributed to the cases of mental distress (Baines, Et al., p. 298). Such group involves emergency responders, especially during accidents. Clinicians are part of this category since they are involved in dealing with major casualties across different health centers. Therefore, psychotherapy skills would efficiently apply in addressing the issues.

What Works Well

Psychotherapy is one of the skills that would apply in addressing the problem. Physical contact with the patients ensures that the patient expresses what they feel about, various incidences that they faced in the past (Deacon, p. 850). It would also encourage them to express the challenges they are encountering in meeting the lives' demands and those of their families. Therefore, the families should be involved in addressing the affected individuals.

Cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) would ensure that the caring relationship with the patients is conducive enough to create confidence among patients to explain the challenges they are faced (Deacon, p. 850). I would establish a strategy where the clinicians would have to apply their scientific skills in identifying the change of negative thoughts into positive behavioral patterns. CBT is important since it ensures that negative perceptions are replaced with the positive ones.

The misconceptions of psychotherapy has often existed among different people. It should be discouraged to ensure that the patients overcome nervousness. Furthermore, individuals affected with mental disorder should be allowed to choose a psychologist based on what he or she believes would best for the condition.

The inpatients should be provided with regular therapeutic counseling to ensure effective recovery. At one time when I visited one of my colleagues in the hospital, I noticed that many patients often undergo emotional distress, this was evidenced from the way they described the medication and how hard it was for them to complete it without the support and encouragement from their family members. Therefore, as part of my strategies in the future career, I would ensure that regular interaction and psychodynamics are conducted to the inpatients. The cases of the outpatients should be accessed by asking different questions like ' what do you think about medication? What do you think contributed to the alcohol abuse? Such questions would ensure that the patient's perspectives are expressed hence would be easier to detect negative comments that could be resulting from a mental disorder.

Analysis

I would establish strategic plans that would ensure that mental disorder is detected and treated early. For instance, emphasis on communication and interaction would be of importance on people who often work and stay together. Communication among the medical staff is also important to their mental health. The staff should be allowed to express the challenges they are faced with in delivering medical services. Addressing the issues would ensure that the staff members are often in a suitable position to address other people's problems and issues.

Health management plans on finance would aim at establish different health facilities close to industries, learning institutions, and schools. At the administration level, human resources and finance management plays a crucial role in ensuring these activities are achieved on a timely basis (Baines, Et al., p. 290). The process would ensure that people can access the counseling sessions without difficulty. The counseling processes should be separated based on the group of patients being addressed. For instance, the patients who develop mental distress as a result of infection of diseases such as HIV or Cancer should be accessed based on the challenges of the health condition and medication processes. Students' problems should be addressed based on perhaps poor performances and how they could improve them without mental disturbance. The counseling services should be availed to professionals such as doctors and military people by conducting a regular assessment of mental disorder cases.

Awareness would play a critical role in ensuring that people access treatment in a case on mental disturbance. The empowerment activity would focus on the male individuals due to the increased mental cases in the society. Events such as counseling should be conducted in the areas of work, industries, and hospitals. It is often difficult for an individual to realize that he or she is affected by the condition (Baines, Et al., p. 290). Therefore, it is important to access an individual's mental health based on his or her working environment and other factors such as family issues and workplace demands. The governmental agencies should be involved in addressing the issue, for instance, mental counseling should be introduced as part of the training across different professionalism.

Health management plans on mental issues would focus on the creation of a platform where rational assessment is regularly conducted to all patients. The process would ensure that the psychotherapist address the problem during the regular visits of outpatients. Mental clinics should be provided with adequate support to ensure that service delivery is provided as required.

Summary

The most significant part of my healthcare career would be to address healthcare management in different aspects. Patients mental health plays a considerable role in facilitating the healing of physical fitness. Therefore, treating mental health-related disorders would play a significant role in ensuring that patients perceive medication positively.
