Argument Essay – ‘A’ Level English It has generally been seen that the children are brought up in such a way that they run after material goods in their lives. Their goals and objectives are set in such a way that they have started to see things from a materialistic point of view. This is a very unfortunate aspect when one considers their upbringing regimes. Proper emphasis should be laid upon the fact that the young ones of today develop their spiritual self more than their lust for money and possessions. The materialism concept creeps in within children when they see other kids getting the most up to date gadgets, innovative facilities and the like. This creates a sense of confusion regarding their parents’ financial status within the society and thus they start demanding a great deal. This is a problem that the parents have to face in a head on fashion. Broadly speaking, the kids need to be told the truth regarding the kind of investments their parents can do in them. They must be narrated in the beginning phases of their lives that their parents’ financial conditions are either not apt with the growing needs of the time or how their parents would like to mould them so that the kids could stand up to face the society in the most ardent way. There is a natural tendency for the children of today to ask for things which have a material value. Usually they see their friends getting all the items which are of good worth and hence the reason that they fall into the trap. They are only young and thus cannot be blamed for such anomalies happening within their fore. Their feeble minds cannot decipher what kind of troubles their parents are going through and what measures they have to take on a proactive basis. The kids need to be told about their parents’ financial condition so that sanity could prevail within the relevant ranks. This can only come about when the kids are told about the positives as well as the negatives – all of which come directly under the realism concepts of money and the eventual financial conditions. When one questions why materialism poses as a detriment towards the cause of raising up children, the answers are unending. This is because the modern day culture has its positive as well as negative affects, all of which need to be seen with an eye of certainty. This is the reason why the young ones are having a tough time at the hands of their contemporaries, which are most obviously the other kids that they hang out with and like to be a part of their company. The influence that the kids have over one another is something that poses as a problematic equation, more so because the parents have to bear the brunt for such an undertaking on the kids’ part. These questions stem from the basis of understanding that materialism is a force that plays a very negative role and thus must be curtailed on a consistent basis. The repercussions of materialism are very negative for the sake of the parents as they experience tough times at the hands of their own kids. However on different occasions, the parents are also very strict when their kids require material possessions which means immensely significant for them (Levine 2007). Under such circumstances, it is always good for the parents and the kids to sit down together and decide the way forward. It is a good idea to have an understanding as to where the kids are coming from and what kind of steps the parents need to take the balance the wants and the needs that arise within the domains of the kids in essence. When the kids stop caring about their parents as well as other people, then is the time they should be taught that they need to revert back to their basics. The parents must not let such a situation crop up in the first place because managing it is immensely difficult. It is always advisable for the parents to forbid their kids from committing into things which are disliked and considered disdainful rather than reacting to what they have already sinned within. It is an appreciable act if the proactive nature is adopted rather than following a reactive attitude. The former leads to sound and positive results for the sake of the interaction that has come about within the parents and their kids, however the latter means that the relationships are marred in entirety. Therefore it is appropriate if the children are exactly told what is expected of them and to what levels they could stretch themselves. Putting them in a difficult situation would always lead to dire consequences and it would thus make life difficult for just about everyone. The children must be taught before they could be held accountable for their deeds. If the parents feel that their children can learn things on their own, especially aspects related with materialism, then they are in the wrong, and it would be best for them to rectify on this disposition as soon as they can. In the end, it would be fitting to state that the children who are being raised as materialistic in their mindset need to be taught the right things at the earliest. If this anomaly develops for a long time, they might just perceive life in a totally wrong way. The society also does not appreciate the individuals who grow up to become materialistic in their disposition. Therefore it is an advisable tenet for the parents to check when it matters the most and rectify the same problem in the bud. This will leave no stone unturned as well as ask of the parents to remain abreast of the situation at hand. It is always a good omen for the parents to know beforehand what their kids are thinking and finding them to be of the materialist sort is a problematic situation in entirety. Immediate remedies need to be found out so that such problems could be resolved in an easy and respectable way. Works Cited Levine, Madeline. How Materialism Hurts Our Kids: Privilege.
