?First Psychology Social Psychology Assignment Relationship Cognition and Satisfaction In the course of the existence of people there are bound to be relationships that will come about as a result of these interactions. These relationships come in different ways depending on the individuals in question. Of particular interest in this case is the relationship that comes by especially after the individuals in question get attracted to each other. There are various rules that govern this attraction between individuals. The major aspect in this case is that dealing with interpersonal attraction. This is the kind of attraction that leads to relationships which may be casual in nature for example that of friendship or at the same time they may lead to attraction between the individuals in question. This kind of attraction is different from physical attraction in the sense that with physical attraction a person may be in a position to establish whether the other is beautiful or not. The relationship cognition theory points out the fact that personal relationships that may be existent between people are a key factor in the achievement of happiness in an individual. Majorly it entails the understanding of how people establish the relationships that are there between them, maintain these relationships and finally looks at the factors that come into perspective in the event of the termination of the relationship. (Montoya &Horton, 2004). There are certain factors that bring about happiness and satisfaction in a relationship. One of these is effective communication between the parties concerned. It is to be noted that when the communication channels in the relationship are good, the parties in it will be happy with each other and the cases of being disgruntled will be minimal. The other factor that is seen to bring happiness is sexual satisfaction. This is something that to a greater extent proves to be vital in a relationship. (Sine & Tulin, 2006). These two are just but some of the factors that are seen to bring about the joy and satisfaction in the relationship that may have been established. Assignment #2 Gender and Relationships In the contemporary society the issue of gender has become something of focus when getting into a relationship. It has come to be noted that in the current day and age there are cases where several issues come out in the relationships that people form. One of these issues is that of individuals of the same sex getting into relationships. Which brings the question of what are the factors that are to be considered in the case of attraction between individuals or what is satisfying to the people who are in the relationship. People have various motives in the relationships that they get into. Some may get into the relationship majorly because of the feeling of being satisfied or happy with the person they are in, others may get into the relationship with the intention of getting a gain from the entire association. (Sine % Tulin, 2006). I am very much in agreement with the research area because it leads to a deeper understanding of the motivating factors when it comes to relationships and at the same time it elucidates some of the factors that come into perspective with regards to attraction between individuals. Class #2 Research Design Assignment #3: Mixed Methods Strategies An issue that has come to affect the individuals living in the current society is that of addiction to the taking of alcohol and smoking. This is something that has been there for quite some time and as time progresses it even becomes something that raises more concern. With this background knowledge there have been several researches carried out to try and establish the extent of the addiction and the effect it has on the people concerned. There are various approaches that may be taken in the research. The one that is of interest in this case, however, is that of the mixed methods. It is to be noted that with this method there are several approaches that may be taken. These strategies include sequential exploratory, sequential explanatory, concurrent triangulation just to mention a few. The approach that seems to be more suitable in this case is that of concurrent triangulation. This is the method which I would choose in the research on addiction. The reason for this pick is primarily because with this approach a researcher tries to use two methods to corroborate or confirm the findings that will come by. It is seen that in this case qualitative and quantitative methods are both used as opposed to using only on. The reason for this is for the purpose of offsetting the weakness that may be existent in one with the strength that may be exhibited by the other. (Gauch, 2003) Overcoming Weaknesses in Research The area of interest in this case is that to do with addiction to smoking and the drinking of alcohol. The main idea in the research is to establish among other things the number of people that are affected and also establish the trend in the people with regards to the addiction. As mentioned earlier there are various methods that may be used when carrying out research. There is the mixed approach where there are a variety of strategies that may be used. At the same time there is the single method approach where only a single primary approach is undertaken. It is very much preferable to use the mixed approach because there are quite a number of options to choose from with regard to the approach that is to be taken. The reason for the preference of this method is because it may be rather detailed as opposed to using only a primary method which may not bring out all the elements in the research. (Schwab, 2009). This is not to say that the mixed approach does not have weaknesses of its own. One major weakness of the mixed method is that there are chances that the method that is taken may not elucidate all the factors in the research. In this case the method may focus more on the qualitative approach or on the quantitative approach when in some cases the research method may demand both of these elements.
