Self-Assessment Paper Throughout my life, I have made significant strides in achieving my goals to be a successful business manager. I have acquired increased strengths and knowledge. My style of learning has also allowed me to grasp learning opportunities, whereas also using the new skills and knowledge that I have gained through application. From my self-assessment, I have found that my greatest strengths include high standards of work, effective and efficient teamwork, and an adaptability to change.

However, there are also areas that I have opportunities to improve and grow. These include management of my priorities, my oratory skills, and motivation and drive. With regards to my online and text emotional intelligence assessments, I did not find any major differences. My emotional intelligence results compare positively to what I think about myself. First, I have always thought that I am highly adaptable, and the assessment revealed that this is my greatest strength. The reason I think I am adaptable is that, I can maintain my effectiveness even when I am going through major work and work environment changes.

Recently, the business that I work for changed the entire company’s accounting software, and because I can adapt effectively; I was able to adjust to the new requirements, processes, and structures. In essence, as the results from my assessment show, I am able to view change as an opportunity to grow, as well as learn, whereas also focusing on the change and the positive aspects that it carries to me and to others. From the assessment, I also found that I am able to work effectively with other people; this is a bit surprising, as I have always thought that I am too quiet in a group environment.

However, it made me think back, and now I can see that I am an effective team worker. Some of the aspects of teamwork that I found positive from the assessment are that, I seek to establish positive relations with most of the team members, and I try to keep my interpersonal relationships with them cordial. In addition, the way I answered the questions can be assessed to show that I am not hostile, defensive, and I do not try to alienate others or alienate myself from others. I proactively try to create positive relationships with people I work with through appreciating them despite their perspectives, inter-personal styles, or backgrounds.

However, my highest score had to do with my work standards, which proved to be quite high. This was not a surprise since I have always known this to be a great strength. Organizations usually prefer workers who have high standards for others, as well as themselves. When doing the assessment, I gave myself high scores with regards to taking responsibility in the successful completion of work tasks while also ensuring that I do not neglect any aspects of the tasks. In addition, I prefer listening to people when there is something new being discussed, and this could be seen from the assessment.

Since I consider myself as an auditory and visual learner, I am able to take in information through instruction, as well as through exposure. Once a student is actively involved in the process of learning, they are more empowered and their levels of self-direction and personal achievement increase (Boud 23). With regards to my tolerance for ambiguity, I have a slight intolerance for ambiguity. I do this by preferring to adhere more to set rules, in addition to, trying to enforce the rules that have already been set (Boud 41).

I also prefer to have more information before making decisions and prefer that teachers give assignments that are not vague. In addition, I prefer to be in familiar surroundings with people that I know while also preferring jobs that are clear-cut in their aim. This means that I would most likely fit in a career that has set rules and does not allow for too much creativity, for example, the military, disciplined forces, or an office job. Finally, with regards to my locus of control, the assessment shows that I have a locus of control that tends towards being internal.

This can be seen from the fact that the assessment shows that I expect internal forces to be in control of the outcomes of various tasks. In general, having an internal locus of control will affect my managerial style in a number of ways. As a manager, I would have a management style that was more participative (Boud 51). An internal locus of control also leads to managers being more inquisitive, and attempting to find out why a specific task turned out the way that it did. It also ensures that the individual works hard in the development of their abilities, skills, and knowledge, which is important to a manager who has to learn on the job.

As a manager with an internal locus of control, one emphasizes on the importance of striving for achievement, whereas also engaging in situational improvement activities. Finally, as a manager, I would be one to internalize information so that it can be used, in the future, to come up with more positive outcomes (Boud 51). Work Cited Boud, David.
