Media Papers/Blogs, Mass Communication By Introduction The main reason for the media is to inform, educate and entertain the targeted audience. When people buy daily newspapers, they are usually looking for information on the current global issues. Through reading the articles and stories featured in the newspaper, they will normally become informed. Finally, there is a part of entertainment where the newspapers have a section for the mind games to help in building vocabulary. In addition, there also a fun page that depicts the political propaganda on a low note by using cartoons. This assignment will focus on global issues that have been published in the Argentina newspaper from the Buenos Aires Herald.com website. The top most news has featured politics, economy and the supermarket business of the country. Political article The Argentina newspaper highlighted the dismissal of the rumors that were saying that Daniel Scioli was stepping down from the presidential candidate. Daniel Scioli said, “I have never considered stepping down from the race.” The rumors were said to be coming from the Macrism, who have the intention of criticizing Daniel and make him feel that he not fit to run campaigns for presidential elections(Herald.com, 2015). Daniel highlights that his reason for campaigning for the presidency. He says that he is concerned about the welfare of the retired employees, he would like to fight against drug trafficking and to reduce the income tax for all employees. This information can clearly tell the state in Argentina. It seems that the taxes for the employees were very high, and it had affected the individuals. When the employees are highly taxed, it means they that they have remained with very little to budget for the daily needs. Reducing the tax will be a way of empowering the employees and all citizens. The issue about pensioners is also troubling many individuals who have retired and those who are close to retiring. Pensions should be well distributed to all retired individuals according to Daniel Scioli. In the article, Daniel Scioli said that he talked with President Cristina Fernandez to assure the public that he is not dropping out from the presidential race. Economics article On the economy, the article talks about the ‘blue’ dollar drops with 13 cents in the last three weeks. The rate of exchange in Argentina has dropped with 13 cents and become 15.77 pesos. This hasgreatly affected the black market exchange of the foreign currency to the local currency and the vice versa. In the bank agencies, the dollar rate increased by half a cent that is equivalent to 9.555 pesos(Herald.com, 2015). Statistics shows that the gap between the rates of exchange and buying new currencies is 65 per cent. The blue dollar is a unique currency in Argentina, and it is a legal form of exchange rates. However, the operations in the black market have been seen to be opaque because of the rising rates of exchanges. The issue of supply and demand helps economics to explain the shifting changes in foreign cash exchange with the blue dollar. For instance, when the demand is higher than the supply, it means that the customers are willing to pay an extra using for the blue dollar. On the other side, when the supply is higher than the demand, it means that the customers will be willing to pay less for more dollar exchange. The shift of the demand and supply equilibrium has been seen to project the changes in the blue dollar exchange rates. In the Guardian website, they have also published an article concerning the ‘blue dollar’ and the peso in Argentina. The article states that the Argentina Peso has been devaluing, and it has led to a subsequent drop in prices in relation to the foreign currency(Theguardian, 2015). The drop of the Peso currency has demotivated tourists from visiting the country. They feel that the rate will not be economical, and they have to spend more on the trip than how it used to be(Theguardian, 2015). The reason as to why the black market has grown is because of the strict restrictions that the government has put for its people. The black market has been seen friendly because the rates of exchange will give one more pesos than when exchanged in a government agency(Herald.com, 2015). Business status for the supermarkets in Argentina The business for the supermarkets seems to have been doing well according to this article. The statistics show that the sales of the supermarket have grown with 7.6 % this year while sales in shopping malls have increased with 17.1%(Herald.com, 2015). On the other side of the business news, it has been reported that the consumer prices have increasedby 1.2 % in the month of September 2015. When these percentage is projected for the 2015 year, it is seen that, accumulatively the rise is equivalent to 10.7%. However, the journalists conducted a research to explain why the shopping mall sales are high than the sales in supermarkets. The feedback given by many people is that they said that shopping malls are more secure than supermarkets. The shopping malls are strategically designed with several facilities such that one can go with the children, and as they have fun in the children sector, parents or adults can go in and shop. Parents do not like going to the shops with the children because children can start asking for things that were not budgeted for. In addition, after the shopping, the family can have something to eat in the same building. Therefore, the shopping malls are more convenient to shop than the supermarket. It will help one reduce movements and have all things under the same roof (Theguardian, 2015). Conclusion These issues do not only belong to Argentina society along. All countries face similar political, economic and business issues. For instance, the strengthening of the US dollar has led to the devaluation of many currencies in different countries. The rate of exchange has been affected. People have to use more of their local currency to get an equivalent of the US dollar. Argentina has been used as the case study in this assignment to get the glimpse of the global issues. In addition, residents in America prefer shopping in shopping malls than in supermarkets because of the convenience of the shopping malls. Shopping malls have ample parking space compared to the supermarkets. With the help of media, people have been able to stay updated with the latest information and the breaking news. With the understanding of the currency state, one can know where to invest and which currency is at the lead. In politics, citizens will be always updated on what is going on with their leaders and the potential candidates who are running for the presidency and other parliament seats. Therefore, media can educate, to inform and to entertain people. References Herald.com, B. A. (2015, October 29). Blue dollar drops 13 cents to three-week low.
