Referee's expertise on the topic (that’s your expertise): Low Medium High Amount of rewriting required: Low Medium High Comments to the Author (mandatory) [Write clearly] Main Contributions of Paper: The paper is a 100% original paper but it lacks in presentation and technical quality. The below mentioned negative and positive aspects will give you a clear idea of the strengths and weakness of your report .please read them carefully. This report seems to be a ISD based as data warehousing is a topic of ISD. Positive Aspects: ___The positive aspects of the report was that is completely plagiarized thus it can be said that it was a100% custom made paper. The flow of ideas was not broken, the concepts also seemed clear to the author. The material used in the report was very relevant and was just right for it. The paragraph “A survey indicated that the data warehousing market grew by 43 percent on a compounded annual basis leading to 2003, when the total market for data warehouses reached Us 148 billion dollars. The US share of that market was predicted to be about half, at US 72.2 billion dollars, with the market in that country for data warehousing projected to grow at a 41 percent growth clip for the next few years” is a paragraph which proves the fact that extensive and in-depth research has been done, in order to write this report. Many other such paragraphs in the findings section give strong support to the Research Problem. A few examples given in paper are further increase the credibility of the paper._ Literature Review is stregnth of the paper , the most creable thing in the whole apper is the Literature Review . the conpects and therories in this section are very clear, and are completely relvent . the hedaing Political Dimensions of Data Warehousing Projects seem to be the strong point of the litrture review. _the introduction seems to cover all the elements of a research paper. The introduction also highlights important questions regarding the topic in question like what are the dimensions of that politics. Are there paradigms in data warehouse politics that provide an alternative to the tug of war thinking between the two groups, paradigms that focus on collaboration rather than on the competition for power? What political arrangements characterise successful data warehouse projects? How is ownership of the data warehouse project tied to its success, and is it IT or business that should own data warehouse projects? ______________________________________________ Negative Aspects: The report has many negative aspects. The required referencing style is Harvard in which the author’s last name , date and page number of the source is given , but the author in this paper has only given the author’s last name with the page number thus eh has followed the MLA style , apart from this he has given a work cited page which is not to be used when using the Harvard style , the Harvard style requires a reference page. Some incited references only had the author’s last name which is also an incorrect method of referencing; infact no referencing style requires this kind of incitation. That abstract is supposed to be given on a separate page before the introduction; the abstract will be justified and not indented. The method of research states that the main research method used is secondary research but the author did not define what a secondary research is. The literature review, findings need to on separate pages. The headings and sub headings in Harvard style are not supposed to be in caps , neither are they supposed to be bold , this is what the author has done, in the Harvard style heading are left aligned and Underlined. the author has used very few articles and books he has completely relied don material from websites whereas in this method of research he has stated that In particular, academic and trade journals, together with literature from existing reputable university and company websites of technology and business services vendors, will be relied on for materials for this research. The findings section needs to have more material on Business Aspects, apart from this section does not even show how there is a balance between the business and technology, the trends section also needs to be increased part from this it also needs to be more specific. The findings need to be more strong and analytical _ The language required in the paper is to UK English but the language used is US English, this will definitely effect the report’s spelling a grammar, as both languages have their own set of spelling for the same word. The heading research problem consists of questions like what is a data warehouse. What are some important aspects of data warehouses? How are they used by different organizations and how do they add value? What are some of the important technical and business aspects of data warehouses? What are the trends and issues in data warehousing thus the heading should not be research problem it should be research .questions. As the research problem is stated in one to three line and is not in question form. The paragraphs in the paper are very long they should be a little short , for example the heading data ware house basic and the conclusion as well seems to be completed in one huge paragraph , here is an example of what the author did wrong a. “Data Warehouse Basics Information that could be made useful if integrated in one place and exploited properly is actually left in so-called information silos, or data repositories that are locked away in individual information systems. Accounting systems data, for example, resides in its own servers, while marketing and sales data is likewise stored away in separate systems and servers. To find out, for example, if there are correlations between the efficiencies in the production of certain products and the sales that are generated for that product in a particular sales region, one has to source data from various systems manually and then try and undertake the analysis. There are several problems with this latter approach. One, the data may not be available. Two, if the data is available, data from different systems may be incompatible, may have missing data elements, and may have missing data. The result is that the analysis cannot be undertaken effectively, or else yields only partial results with limited application. The idea behind data warehousing is to bring together data from all parts of the organization, structure them optimally in one super structure and store them in a single repository, and to provide the tools that will allow for all kinds of data analysis for business gain. From that single optimized repository, for example, it becomes possible to come up with reports that are integrated for the whole organization. Management is able to extract valuable information from the organization reports. The data locked in the central repository can then be made the subject of all kinds of rigorous technical and statistical analyses to uncover patterns and trends, and to come up with insights into consumer behaviour and the movement of goods and services within and outside the company. The data can be properly mined, so to speak, for insights that can help the company improve the way it markets and manufactures products and services to suit the needs of customers. Customer behaviour in itself can also be better understood by undertaking a comprehensive analysis of customer behaviour as reflected in the data. Data warehousing technologies, procedures and tools allow all these to happen” _____Notice how the paragraph goes on and on, this paragraph could easily been broken in two three or even four paragraphs. No header is given; the report requires harder stating the page number and topic of the paper Requested Changes: __ Harvard style of formatting should be used throughout the paper, for the headings as well as for the references and reference page._____________________________________________________ ____Paragraph should not be long . More article and books should be used as sources of information The heading research problem should be changed to question and another heading stating the problem should be given. Header should be given along with the topic and pager number . The findings section needs to have more material on Business Aspects, apart from this section does not even show how there is a balance between the business and technology, the trends section also needs to be increased apart from this it also needs to be more specific Abstract needs to be on separate page before the introduction, it has to be justified and not indented. Literature review and findings should be on two separate pages To avoid grammar and spelling errors UK English should be used as it is the required language of the report. All heading should be underlined and not in capitals or bold. The findings need to be more strong and analytical. ____ Balance between the business and technology needs to be mentioned The trends section also needs to be increased part from this it also needs to be more specific. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Reviewer’s mark 4 / 10 Comments from Dr Rowlands _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Confidential comments for Dr Rowlands’ use only: __The report needs a lot of work to make it more presentable and analytical. I believe that this report could have been an excellent one if the above mentioned negative aspects were looked into, as most of them are just plain careless mistakes. _____________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ Read More
