The main methods that were incorporated in the study entailed the use of questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The types of questionnaires that were used were both closed and open-ended. In addition, methods such as mixed methods which included triangulation were also employed. It enabled the collection of data in numerous ways.During the research, there were other complications that were encountered but these complications such as time consumption by the use of questionnaires did not hamper the realization of the objectives of the study.

The results that came from the study vividly illuminated the importance of play in reference to the behavior of children.According to Darian-Smith & Pascoe (2012), all cultures across the globe are conscious of the fact that play among children is vital to their development. Play is an activity that is voluntary and intrinsically or intuitively motivated. It is usually related to either enjoyment or recreational pleasure. Even though the play is largely associated with children (their activities are perceived as a juvenile), it can also be a vital activity for the adults.

Mayesky (2009) supports by explaining that play not only vital in providing solutions to problems but also in building strong relationships. Moreover, there are specific play activities that are multicultural and global in nature in that they can be evidenced among children from different cultures ranging from America, Europe, to Asia and Africa. Some of these common play activities include: hide and seek; peek a boo et cetera. Michael (2009) argues that to children, play tends to be instinctive.

Hubbuck (2009) asserts that according to research conducted by the British Association of Sports and Health Science, besides play being fun and exciting, it also facilitates the development of a child’s cognition, and motor skills including imagination, problem solving, creativity, and social skills.Gray (2008) points out that one way of categorizing child play is directed and undirected play. Directed play is where play is controlled by adults. Gray (2008) further asserts that this mainly occurs in schools particularly early childhood classes such as Early Years, and primary.
